Anonymous visitor statistics

To understand public interest in the archive, this site records anonymous page-view statistics. This is first-party measurement, not advertising or cross-site tracking.

When you visit a public archive page, your browser creates a temporary random session code. The archive stores only a one-way, daily-rotated hash of that code to count daily anonymous visitors. It does not store your name, email address, IP address, device fingerprint, or a record of which pages an individual visitor viewed.

Anonymous visitor hashes are removed after 65 days, which allows the archive to compare a 30-day period with the preceding 30 days. Page-view totals, without any visitor identifier, are retained for up to 13 months. Archive staff can access aggregate totals such as visits, daily anonymous visitors, popular pages, and broad referral categories.
